Anything To Win

After reading Kruse's article "The Real Loser," I believe the article explains how politicians will do just about anything to gain an advantage.  Many examples were given but from what I got out of it, are that any words, actions, anything can be twisted to give the opponent an advantage.  The article brought us from past "political tactics" to modern "political tactics."  Also, how the media can twist things to make it seem like things are not that bad, or terrible.  Some tactics were used to "blind" the voter, no matter how many were fooled by it, just as long as it was enough.

My reaction to the article is "not surprised."  Everyone always hears things, we just don't actually know the truth.  I can't help but think of the movie "The Campaign."  While the movie exaggerates quite often, it's actually not too far from the truth, according to Kruses's article.  In the movie, every time one of the candidates does anything that is out of the ordinary, the opposing candidate would make a commercial about it, etc.  I believe the article is very truthful, and I also one hundred percent believe that candidates would and will do anything to win.

  1. I took the same stand as you did concerning my feeling on the article. I will admit I may have been a touch more harsh about the fact but i agree that his topic of choice was more than a little obvious. I like the picture you chose and the fact ii uses the crossed fingers and the two faces to really drive a point home.

  2. Tyler, your reaction is valid, but Kruse is trying to make a subtly different point: in the past, politicians stretched the truth, but they didn't ignore it or just make stuff up; in the last several years, however, campaigns have begun disregarding facts or just making up their own facts. So Kruse would say, "Today's politicians will do anything to win, but it wasn't always like this."

  3. Yes I read this as also a point being made that politicians have always exaggerated but for today they actually 'make up facts' to make the public assume they are true and with the world's fast pace of media the damage is often done before true facts can come out

  4. Tyler-
I don’t think many of us were surprised; it’s pretty ridiculous how politics are these days. It’s up to us as voters to seek the truth before we cast our ballots. I have not watched this movie you speak of but I’m going to have to check it out, it sounds pretty funny. Good job and thanks!
